Alton James III

Alton grew up in Luling, Louisiana (Geaux Saints!) and brings small town values to the big city and his representation of our clients. Alton originally began his education at Xavier University of Louisiana on the Pre-Med track with aspirations to be in the medical field like his mother before him. Eventually, he discovered his passion of law and politics from a professor and transferred to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he studied political-science. While in college, Alton joined the fraternity of Alpha Phi Alpha Inc., was president of the debate team, president of the law club, and a member of several other campus organizations. He also chaired and organized many community focused events and organizations with the focus of mentoring underserved youth. 

Graduating at the age of 22, Alton then continued his education in Houston, TX at Thurgood Marshall School of Law, on the campus of Texas Southern University. While there, Alton developed a passion for mock trial and litigation. For the three years Alton was at Thurgood he established himself as a strong advocate, which translated to several awards and winning mock trial competitions.

Since graduating law school, Alton has worked as a Misdemeanor Assistant District Attorney with the Victoria County District Attorney’s office, Felony Assistant District Attorney at the Dallas County District Attorney’s office, worked at a boutique law firm, and operated and managed a successful solo law practice.  Since joining the Criss Law Group, PLLC, Alton’s mantra is to always work from a position of trust, excellence, and aggressive advocacy while being humble, hungry, and smart for his clients.

When not practicing law, Alton is an avid western, sci-fi, anime, and nature documentary lover. If you don’t find him at a local CrossFit gym, he is with his fiancée Susan, and their dog Max. Alton also enjoys volunteering in the community, coaching mock trial, mentoring the youth, and a good videogame.
